Room Reference Android Privacy Policy
Effective 13 October 2026. This policy covers Room Reference for Android (com.directsound.roomreference), provided by Direct Sound Records Ltd. Contact: .
Microphone and saved measurements
Room Reference requests microphone permission to measure audio from your selected input, including a USB microphone or audio interface. Level checks use live audio while the relevant screen is in the foreground. Measurement captures save microphone recordings, the generated sweep reference, analysis results, timestamps, selected device names, level settings and room context in the app’s private storage. The app does not upload microphone recordings or measurement results to Direct Sound Records.
Rooms, camera and images
You can enter room dimensions and speaker positions manually. Optional scanning features request camera permission and use camera and sensor information to estimate room geometry, furniture, colours and speaker appearance. Room and speaker models, image-derived assets, imported microphone calibration profiles, names and preferences are saved on your device. Furniture recognition uses a bundled on-device machine-learning model. The app does not send room photographs or speaker images to a developer-operated server.
Google Play Services for AR
Optional room and object scanning uses Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), provided by Google and governed by the Google Privacy Policy. According to Google’s ARCore data-safety documentation, ARCore collects Google account identifiers, or device-specific identifiers when the user is not signed in, performance and diagnostic information, and API-usage and app-activity information. Google uses this information for analytics and operation and improvement of AR experiences. Google encrypts this collected data in transit on supported Google Play devices. This collection occurs when ARCore is used; you can use manual room setup and audio measurements without starting an AR scan.
This app does not enable ARCore Cloud Anchors or Geospatial APIs. It does not request location permission or use those APIs to upload camera video, cloud anchors or precise location. Google controls retention and privacy choices for its services; consult Google’s privacy policy and account controls.
Local network playback
If you choose Wi-Fi/DLNA playback, the app discovers compatible players on your local network and sends playback commands and generated test tones or sweeps to your selected player. Discovery and playback use local network addresses and HTTP/UPnP; these local transfers are not encrypted. They do not stream your microphone recordings. Player devices and their software may have their own privacy practices.
Accounts, advertising and analytics
Room Reference has no app account, advertising SDK, developer-operated analytics service or developer-operated cloud measurement storage. Google Play, Android and Google Play Services for AR may process installation, purchase, diagnostic and service information under their own policies. The ARCore collection described above is separate from the app’s local measurement storage.
Storage, backups and your choices
You can revoke microphone or camera permission in Android Settings. Delete saved measurements from Sessions and manage rooms and microphone profiles in the app. Saved local data remains until it is deleted, you clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app. Android backup is enabled; depending on your device and account settings, Android may back up app data through its backup service. Backup copies and retention are controlled by Android and your backup provider and settings. Deleting local data does not necessarily delete earlier backup copies.
Purchases and support
Google Play processes the paid app purchase. Room Reference does not receive payment-card details. If you email support or share app details using Android’s sharing interface, you choose the information and recipient. Support emails may include your email address, message, attachments and app or device details that you choose to send. We use correspondence to respond to your request. Contact about access to, correction of or deletion of support information.
Changes
We will update this policy if the app’s data practices change. The effective date identifies the current policy.
